This subject aims to acquaint students with current ethical and legal issues in
relation to genetics and genetic counselling. Using a number of ethical
principles, the subject examines the role of ethics and law, playing particular
attention to issues such as genetic testing and screening, gene therapy, and
genetic manipulation. The subject also considers the ethics of family planning
and augmentation. The subject concludes with an examination of some of the wider
economic and social justice issues in relation to genetics in health care.
