AbstractThis subject examines the planning and conduct of research in cultural performance. It provides students with the resources to carry out a detailed research design and comprehensive literature review as a background to later dissertation research. The subject provides a critique of draft dissertations within a seminar situation. Following review and consultation the final dissertation proposal is submitted. |

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics: Preparation of a comprehensive dissertation proposal which details:
- the dissertation topic, and statement about the feasibility of completing the research
- the questions or hypothesis
- a statement about the theoretical framework underlying the
research
- an annotated bibliography and literature review of the principal published research which is relevant to the topic of the dissertation
- the research design, including the method or methods to be
employed, and a comprehensive timetable for completion of the
dissertation
- a statement about the analytical procedures to be employed
- a draft table of contents |

Residential SchoolThis subject contains a compulsory 2 day residential school.
Lectures and demonstration of dissertation research models. Seminars and oral presentation of dissertation proposals by students.
