DOH401 Dental Clinical Practice 4A (24)
Abstract
This is a continuation of dental clinical practice from DOH331 and DOH332. This subject is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to provide more complex and comprehensive clinical care. Fixed prosthodontics will be introduced into patient care. Students will also be introduced to periodontal surgical procedures in periodontal and restorative case management. Additionally, students will gain the requisite skills in diagnosis, treatment planning and case selection for general practitioner level paediatric care as well as an appropriate understanding of the referral pathways essential for optimal paediatric care. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
-be able to demonstrate continuing familiarity and competence in a clinical dental setting;
-be able to demonstrate continuing familiarity and competence in diagnosis and treatment planning for clinical dentistry;
-be able to demonstrate continuing development of skills in the management of patients with periodontal disease;
-be able to demonstrate developing knowledge and continuing development of skills relevant to the provision of simple safe local anaesthesia;
-be able to demonstrate continued development of clinical skills relevant to the provision of simple dental restorations;
-be able to demonstrate continued development of clinical skills required for the provision of relief of pain and simple endodontic treatment;
-be able to demonstrate continued development of clinical skills relevant to the provision of removable partial dentures;
-be able to demonstrate continued development of clinical competence relevant to the management of simple dental extractions;
-be able to demonstrate understanding of the general principles of pharmacology and with particular relevance to dental care;
-be able to demonstrate understanding and clinical skills relevant to meeting a patient’s basic fixed prosthodontics requirements;
-be able to demonstrate an understanding of the context of surgical periodontics within overall patient care;
-be able to demonstrate an understanding of specific behavioural and management strategies required for the provision of optimal oral health care for children;
-be able to demonstrate an understanding of examination, diagnosis, treatment planning and the treatment skills required for the provision of dental treatment for children. |
