EEP442 Cultural Politics of Education (8)
Abstract
Education is a political activity which is grounded in specific cultural contexts. Teachers need to be cognisant of the complexity of education in general and schooling in particular, given that schools exert considerable influence upon the students and adults who work and learn within them. This subject foregrounds a number of cultural issues which influence teachers, teaching strategies and student learning. The study canvases a range of issues in education from gender, class, rurality and indigeneity, amongst others to more specific cultural and political issues relating to schools and schooling. |
