AbstractThis subject aims to develop professional, advanced Groupwork skills and knowledge. Students will be taught essential groupwork theory and develop skills through training exercises. Students will learn advanced level groupwork conceptualization and practice those conceptualizations with targeted client groups. The emphasis will be on the integration of groupwork conceptualization with practice. |

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics: Unit 1: Definitions of key terms encountered in Groupwork literature; a description of the developmental stages through which groups pass. (2 weeks)
Unit 2: Ethics and Professional Issues in Groupwork.
Unit 3: Theoretical Approaches in Counselling Groups - Psychoanalytic, Adlerian, Psychodrama, Existential, RET, Transactional Analysis.
Unit 4: Fundamentals of Groups - structure, processes, cohesion, group purposes, group ethos, termination of groups.
Unit 5: The effective, purposive group leader - styles and approaches.
Unit 6: Commonly occurring problems in groups.
