Sustainability and NGOs in Cambodia

This program has 10 x $3000 New Colombo Plan mobility grants available to assist students with the costs associated with this program

On this New Colombo Plan funded program you will learn about the operations and management of not-for-profit non-government organisations  (NGOs) in Cambodia, and also work along with them.

CRDT Tours (your program host) is an experienced community development group, which aims to provide learning experiences whilst promoting local well-being, self sufficiency and support through rural development initiatives.

Over the two weeks you'll attend introductory meetings with organisations to discuss relevant topics such as Cambodia’s economic, political and business backgrounds; history, growth and areas of operations of NGOs in Cambodia; current socio-economic and business contexts; local language and culture etc. Visits to a local university will allow you to meet other business students and lecturers to share and theories and learnings from an academic perspectives.

You'll travel through Cambodia to locations including Phnom Penh, Siem Riep (including Angkor Wot temples), Kratie and Mondulkiri to have direct experience of NGOs operations in different socio-economic fields.  Through these meetings you'll get opportunities to work directly with individual NGOs to gain first-hand experience in working in a developing country.

NGOs are becoming increasingly relevant in modern global business network. To become a well-informed business executive in future, you must understand and experience the operations of this special type of organisation. Cambodia is very well placed to provide that opportunity as a large number of NGOs are successfully working there to improve the economic and social well-beings of the people. This program will focus on hands-on experience of the operations of national and international NGOs in Cambodia (eg, Apsara, Tinytoon, IUCM, WWS, WCS).

As well as having the support of CRDTours you'll also be accompanied by Charles Sturt Academic Dr Felicity Small.  Dr Small has extensive teaching and industry experience. Her teaching areas include Marketing Fundamentals, Digital and Social Media Marketing and Societal and Environmental Marketing.

I was attracted to the Cambodia tour by the chance to experience another culture through a business focus rather than simply as a tourist and for the opportunity to interact more closely with other students.  The tour provided this in bucket loads.
