This program has 10 x $3000 New Colombo Plan mobility grants available to assist students with the costs associated with this program
This New Colombo Plan funded program is designed for students wishing to immerse themselves in Sri Lankan culture whilst learning about criminal justice and policing in the Indo Pacific
The group will work directly with organisations such a local Policy Training Academy, Terrorism Investigation Department, Community Base Correction Department and the Centre for Research and Training in Correction. Site visits will include local courts, police departments, prisons and workshops with local NGOs focused on supporting youth and women in the community.
Students will also be provided with an insider’s look into the nation’s food, language, history and culture. Weekend and evening activities will include visits to local temples, cooking classes, and the chance to experience Sri Lanka’s wildlife on safari.
You will be accompanied on the program by Charles Sturt's senior lecturer in Criminology, Dr John Gaffey. Dr Gaffey has been a lecturer with the university since 2011 and is currently Justice Studies Discipline Lead in the Centre for Law and Justice’s Bachelor of Criminal Justice and Bachelor of Policing and Public Safety programs. Also supporting the group will be experienced staff from Projects Abroad. Their expertise in delivering international programs will ensure you have 24/7 assistance whilst away.
The self ticketing aspect of this program will also allow students to explore more of this unique destination prior to or on conclusion of the program.
