Lille European Summer Program.

Created in 2001, the LILLE European Summer Program (ESP) is a four-week academic course offering to students (and instructors) from around the world the opportunity to experience French culture firsthand at the heart of Europe and be part of an international, multicultural student community.

LILLE ESP is tailored to suit your objectives and challenges, while balancing educational and social activities. Students can choose from a large variety of electives to fulfil their interests and expand their horizons.

Students from all over the world, from different types of institutions, with different backgrounds and perspectives share a common experience on this French campus, at the heart of Europe.

There are two dates to choose from:

  • ESP 1: 21st May - 20th June 2025 OR
  • ESP 2: 25th June  - 24th July 2025

Program overview

Home to the Université Catholique de Lille since 1875, Lille is a vibrant and dynamic university city at the centre of Western Europe. With swift connections to Brussels (35 minutes), Paris (60 minutes), and London (80 minutes), Lille is perfect for students planning to visit and study in Europe. And there is always much to see and do in Lille itself – a welcoming multicultural haven.

The LILLE European Summer Program is composed of two month-long program sessions (June and July). Students are welcome to attend one or both sessions.

Students can choose from a large variety of electives. The programs offer academic courses taught in English or in French, utilizing the University’s expertise in Humanities, Social Sciences, Management, and more. Courses are taught by highly-qualified faculty from the Université Catholique de Lille or visiting professors, with an aim to provide both theoretical background and practical learning through site visits and hands-on activities.

French language courses taught in the morning are available for all levels from beginner onward.

Cost: €3450 (plus 10% discount as a Charles Sturt Student - you must attend both sessions)

Academic Recognition

Up to 6 ECTS per ESP elective ( 6 ECTS = 8 Charles Sturt credits).

French language courses taught in the morning are available for all levels from beginner onward.

  • Health and Travel insurance - coverage is mandatory to study in France. Students 25 years and under can subscribe to ESP coverage through the Université Catholique de Lille for 100€ per session. Students 26 years or older for 150€ per session.

Pre-departure

All participants will be required to complete mandatory pre-departure requirements. This includes the provision and completion of the following:

  • Flight Itinerary*:  You must submit a copy of your E-ticket that clearly lists your dates, flight number/ times from the day you leave Australia until the day you return and confirmation these flights have been paid for.
  • Travel Insurance*:  You will need to ensure you have the appropriate medical and travel insurance from the day you leave Australia until the day you return.  You must submit a copy of your certificate of insurance and your Product Disclosure Statement (PDS). At a minimum your insurance must include:
    • Medical Expenses $500,000
    • Repatriation Expenses $15,000
    • Personal Liability $1,000,000
    • 24hr Emergency Assistance Included
    • COVID 19 cover
  • Passport: You must submit a copy of your passport (the page where your photo is).
  • Pre-departure modules: You will be registered for online pre-departure training.
  • Registration with World Travel Protection (WTP): You will need to download the Travel Assist V2 by WTP app from Apple App store or Android App. The app provides immediate access to 24-hour emergency medical assistance (in the event that your own insurer is unavailable), security alerts and detailed country reports. You will need to enable World Travel Protection to access your location so you can receive real-time travel and security support if an incident occurs.
  • Student Declaration form: complete and return this to Charles Sturt Global. This will be provided with your acceptance email.
  • Emergency contact form: complete and return this to Charles Sturt Global. This will be provided with your acceptance email

In addition to the above requirements your program leader will host a number of online predeparture meetings that you will be expected to attend.

Learning about so many different cultures and meeting such a different group of people is something you can’t experience in classrooms here. Everyone was there for the same reasons; a love of learning, love of travel and curiosity. These things bound us all together.
