This Allied Health Placement is available to Bachelor Paramedicine and Masters of Paramedicine students. You will be placed with Wellington Free Ambulance Service in Wellington and the greater Wellington region on a four week placement.
You'll learn how paramedic services are delivered in the country, whilst observing clinical practice on local ambulances responding to emergency calls. You will experience the working life of a paramedic, completing your placement hours through rotating shifts.
As well as learning clinical skills you'll also have opportunities the experience local indigenous culture through professional, social and tourist activities on your days off.

Relating to courses:
Students enrolled in Charles Sturt University's Bachelor of Paramedicine or Master of Paramedicine* at the time of undertaking the program and enrolled in CLS206, CLS311 or APS404 at the time of applying. This will require enrolment in, payment of and successful completion of the relevant subject.
Students must also be eligible to receive academic recognition for this placement within the year of travel and have completed all pre-placement requirements at the time of applying.
Students with an Study Access Plan in place must upload a copy with their application so that placement adjustment modifications can be arranged where possible.
*Master of Paramedicine students specialising in Extended Care Paramedicine are welcome to apply. Unfortunately Wellington Free Ambulance cannot accommodate any critical care paramedic students.

Students will be eligible to apply for Vice-Chancellor Travel Grant of $400 (Students must complete all predeparture requirements (see pre-departure tab) before payments can be made).

In addition to the above requirements your program leader will host a number of online predeparture meetings that you will be expected to attend.
The self-ticketing aspect of the program will allow you the flexibility of exploring the beauty and culture of New Zealand at your leisure prior to and/or after the program completion.
Learning about so many different cultures and meeting such a different group of people is something you can’t experience in classrooms here. Everyone was there for the same reasons; a love of learning, love of travel and curiosity. These things bound us all together.
