This subject is now mandatory for all Charles Sturt students studying in Australia. If you're an international student living offshore you don't have to complete this subject.

You must complete the Child Safety subject by the end of session. If you do not complete the subject, your grades will not be visible to you in line with our policy.
To complete the Child Safety subject, students will need to work through the content in your Learning Management System (Brightspace or Interact2)
You will need to achieve 100% on the quiz to complete the subject.

Successful completion of the Child Safety subject will be noted on your student record.
You can also check if you've completed the subject from the 'Non-course subjects' section of your Student Portal dashboard (shown with a green tick if complete, as per the image below).

Some of our students have two active student IDs, as they may have completed a different course previously, or are studying in concurrent sessions.
If you have two active student IDs (an A and B ID) you only need to complete this subject once. You are only enrolled in the Child Safety subject once. If you have trouble getting into the subject under one ID, please try logging in under your other ID/username. If you receive communication but are confident you've completed the subject, you may have an A and B ID.
When you complete the Child Safety subject, the grade hold will be removed from both A and B IDs.
As members of the Charles Sturt community, we care about the wellbeing of children. Child safety is everyone’s responsibility, and we all have a part to play. Even if you are not going to work in a role where you are responsible for children, you are required to complete the subject. It will provide you with the toolkit required to intervene and protect a vulnerable child.
Not only will this subject provide you with the skill set to address child sex abuse behaviours, but it will also provide you with an understanding of your positionality and the impact of generational disadvantage.
The Child Safety Policy sets out the University’s approach to child safety and the requirements for those interacting with children within the University or on its behalf. The CSA100 Child Safety: Awareness and Mandatory Reporting of Child Sexual Assault and Abuse subject fulfills key recommendation 62f of the Final Report into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
The Child Safety subject site will remain active in your Interact2/blackboard dashboard so you will always be able to revisit the content at any time.

Students can request an exemption in limited circumstances, including those with lived experience, family experience, cultural experience or other related circumstances. To review your options about triggering material and exemptions, you need to fill out a form for consideration of an exemption. We recommend you do this as soon as possible. We do not need to know specific details about your circumstances. The link to this form can be found in the introduction to the subject.

An exemption is not available unless it is related to possible triggering material.
For new students, you must complete the subject within your first session of study. For continuing students, you must complete the subject before the end of Session 1 2022. If you do not complete the subject beforehand, you will not be able to see your final grades.
It’ll take you around an hour to complete, but will provide you with a lifetime of skills to make a difference to vulnerable children in your community.

In your subject site, on the left-hand side there is a tab labelled “Certificate”. Once you complete the subject, your personalised certificate will be available here. You can download the certificate by selecting the three dots in the top right-hand corner and selecting “print”. Then save your document as a PDF.
No, you will only need to complete the subject once. Please send a copy of your ELMO certificate to Child-Safety@csu.edu.au so we can update your student record.
