Orientation Leaders and Coordinators

You can support new students on the day by becoming an Orientation Leader or Coordinator.

When we recruit

We recruit twice a year for Orientation Coordinators, in the lead-up to Session 1 and Session 2.

We recruit for Orientation Leaders at the start of each year.

Roles and opportunities

Position 1

Orientation Leaders

Position type: Volunteer (unpaid)
Location: Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange, Port Macquarie or Wagga Wagga
Duration: Orientation plus training

As an Orientation Leader, you may perform the following tasks:

  • provide information and assistance to commencing students
  • create a welcoming and enjoyable experience for commencing students on Move In Day, Welcome Events and Market Days
  • set up, pack up and oversee social events
  • help out on social media
  • give campus tours and provide advice across various campus areas
  • other duties as required.

Position 2

Orientation Coordinators

Position type: Paid with volunteer commitments
Location: Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange, Port Macquarie or Wagga Wagga
Duration: 12 month contract – 3 months for Orientation plus other times throughout the year upon mutual agreement

As an Orientation Coordinator, you may perform the following tasks:

  • production of the social Orientation program
  • development and delivery of training to Orientation Leaders
  • develop a well-functioning and positive Orientation Leader team and supervise their Orientation tasks
  • liaise with university staff regarding program timetabling, needs and implementation
  • event planning and management
  • promotion of Orientation through advertising, social media
  • sponsorship canvasing
  • logistics (i.e. provision of meals, transport, etc.)
  • safety and risk management
  • budget monitoring
  • other duties as required.

Position requirements

Orientation Coordinators customarily return to their campus approximately 2–3 weeks before the Orientation period to finalise and prepare.
You must address the selection criteria below as part of your Coordinator application.

Essential:

  • previous relevant work experience
  • a good knowledge and understanding of the University
  • the ability to assist in the development and implementation of Orientation events and activities
  • ability to coordinate and supervise a team of volunteer Orientation Leaders
  • effective interpersonal skills
  • understanding and attending to the support needs of commencing students
  • the ability to work without supervision
  • provide an effective liaison role between students, staff and the wider community
  • computer skills
  • extensive written and oral communications experience
  • completion of governance and leadership training

Desirable:

  • a current driver's licence
