Dr Jake Ball is a registered specialist periodontist with the Dental Board of Australia and Academic Lead in Periodontics at the School of Dentistry and Medical Sciences, Charles Sturt University.

Jake has been appointed Acting Clinical Director of the Dental and Oral Health Clinics at Charles Sturt University since April 2023 and oversees the five clinics located in Albury, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange and Wagga Wagga.

Jake graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science from Charles Sturt University in 2013 receiving several awards for academic excellence. Following graduation, he worked as a general dentist, clinical tutor and Adjunct Associate Lecturer at Charles Sturt University Dental and Oral Health Clinic. During this time, he successfully completed Part I examinations with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons receiving commendations for his achievements.

In 2017, Jake completed his speciality training at the University of Melbourne in 2019, graduating with a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry. During this time, he gained extensive experience in periodontics and implant dentistry, teaching, and research. He received an Australian Dental Research Foundation Grant for his clinical research in metabolomics and held the position of the University of Melbourne ITI Study Club Director. Jake has completed a Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at Charles Sturt University.

In 2023, Jake was awarded Senior Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy, internationally recognising his advanced professional standing and expertise in teaching and learning in higher education.

Jake’s teaching experience and expertise is in the areas of periodontics, implant dentistry, dental clinical practice and higher education.

Jake’s research interests are in the areas of metabolomic, microbiomic and genomic assessments in relation to periodontal diseases. His research interests also include clinical periodontics and implant dentistry.
