Find out how to request and deliver a paired subject in Brightspace.
Paired subjects are two or more subjects that share substantially similar content but have different teaching methods or administration. For example, an undergraduate subject might be paired with a postgraduate subject, sharing the same content but with a higher level of assessment in the postgraduate offering of the subject. Alternatively, subjects offered to students undertaking a transition program may be paired with existing subjects, but with modifications to teaching, support and assessment
There are two main ways paired sites can be set up:
This helps manage content efficiently while meeting different teaching and assessment needs. If you have any questions or need more details, please Log a Service Request.
If you teach paired subjects in Brightspace, you are only required to maintain shared content in one Master site. The other Master sites will only contain items unique to that subject. In most cases, that may only mean assessment items, but in some cases, it may include content unique to that subject code as well.
Master site 1: The subject convenor maintains all content and assessment.
Master site 2: The subject convenor maintains only unique content and unique assessment.
Master site 3: The subject convenor maintains only unique content and unique assessment.
The standard, automated provisioning process occurs four weeks before the start of session. This results in one complete subject site (subject site 1) and several almost empty subject sites (subject site 2 and subject site 3).
The content from Subject site 1 is copied into Subject site 2 and 3.
The subject sites now contain all content and assessment items. Subjects are delivered as separate subject sites with a distinct My Grades area for each subject.
It is possible to have shared discussions and announcements.
Note: This can only be used if the discussions are not assessable.
To achieve this, a separate organisation site needs to be provisioned. Then, using Intelligent Agents, students are automatically enrolled in the org site to receive the same announcements and discussions.
To request paired subject sites, please complete the Paired Sites Request Form and Log a Service Request selecting the Brightspace (LMS) category. You can also log a request to seek advice about the best configuration of paired sites for your particular requirements.
