Use the Staff Profile Widget

The Brightspace Staff Profile Widget provides students with information about the staff enrolled in a subject site, so students are introduced to the subject staff team and know who to contact if they have a query. The Staff Profile appears on the homepage of a subject site.

The Staff Profile updates automatically, removing the need for you to manually add staff information to the Welcome topic in each site.

As a minimum, the Staff Profile shows the names of staff with specific roles in the Brightspace site, such as Subject Convenor and Subject Coordinator. You can also choose to share additional information such as:

  • profile photo
  • office phone number
  • campus, building and room location, and
  • consultation procedure.

To add this additional information, update your profile by following these steps:

Step 1

Login to Brightspace

Access Brghtspace

Step 2

Click on your name from the top right menu

Click Profile

The profile screen displays all the fields that you can edit.

Complete fields

Complete the fields with any necessary information. This can be copied from the Subject Outline, if you are the Subject Co-ordinator.

Step 5

Click Save and Close

The information you have added will be visible to students in the Staff Profile Widget in any subjects you teach.

The Staff Profile widget will still function if profile fields are left blank.

Frequently asked questions

  1. What roles are going to be shown to students?
    Subject Convenor, Subject Coordinator and Additional Academic.
  2. Does my profile show up in every subject I’m involved with?
    Your visibility is tied to your specific role within each Brightspace subject site, rather than your overall role at the university. So, if you’re reviewing a subject for another academic without actively teaching it, your profile won’t appear, even if you are a convenor on other subjects.
  3. Does my profile show up to all students in a subject?
    Not necessarily.  The Subject Convenor and Subject Coordinator profiles are visible to all students. The Additional Academic profile is only visible to students enrolled in their assigned section.
  4. Do I have a different profile for each subject I teach in?
    No. You only need to complete a single profile. This profile will automatically appear across relevant subjects and sites.
