“Asking for extensions made me feel like I wasn’t worthy of studying”: In what ways do automatic extensions contribute to student success?

“Asking for extensions made me feel like I wasn’t worthy of studying”: In what ways do automatic extensions contribute to student success?

Aims/Objectives of the roundtable
This roundtable aims to explore the initial results of our research project that explored the views of students, academics, and support staff, in relation to the automatic 7-day extension tool. How the Charles Sturt’s automatic 7-day extension tool has been used and viewed by academics will be the focus of the discussion. Attendees will be invited to reflect on students’ experiences and views of the tool, and contribute to potential applications of the tool as an element of a UDL-informed approach to student support.
Issues/questions/ideas for exploration and discussion
- To what extent do you include the provision of extensions in your subjects to support students’ well-being? What other ways do you provide students with access to extensions?
- If students take the 7-day extension, you do not know why they need an extension. What ways could you provide students with support when they do take an automatic extension?
- How could the use of the automatic 7-day extension tool be improved?
