Guidance notes: Principle 1 Courses

Principles

1.1  An award is a qualification, which the University confers on students who have completed the requirements of the course of study leading to the qualification. An award represents a particular set of learning outcomes and objectives based on, and compliant with, the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
1.2  Programs of study leading to an award are known as courses.
1.3  Units of study within a course are known as subjects.

Rationale/Policy link

  • Definitions of subjects and courses are important for establishing the use of these terms within CAPs. The terms were also benchmarked with definitions across other Australian universities.
  • The definition of ‘award’ within the Course and Subject Policy has been amended to align with the AQF Glossary of Terminology definition.

Other guiding information

  • This document only applies to Charles Sturt Courses.
  • This document precludes ‘enabling courses’ as they are not courses that lead to an AQF aligned award.
