Guidance notes: Principle 2 Stewardship of Courses

Principles

2.1  Academic Senate oversees the academic quality of the University’s courses and subjects and their compliance with the relevant standards and regulations.
2.2  Academic Senate may approve variations in courses where necessary to meet course accreditation and professional accreditation requirements.

Rationale/Policy link

  • 2.1 This statement is taken unaltered from the Course and Subject Policy. Roles and responsibilities section
  • 2.2 This overarching statement is added to cover the potential for variation of course components, subject combinations or points allocations. This is a new statement that does not appear to exist in current policy related to Academic Senate or its committees and delegations.
  • See Course and Subject Policy Roles and responsibilities:
    • University Courses Committee

Other guiding information

  • If a course does not meet CAPs, approval for variation can be sought from the Academic Senate.  A case will need to be made for why the course does not meet CAPs.
