Reporting suspected academic misconduct

If you identify potential academic misconduct in a student's assessment, it is important to follow the correct reporting process for further investigation by an Academic Integrity Officer (AIO).

To report a concern, please complete the Student Academic Misconduct Checklist then submit the online form.

Please ensure you include:

  • The original, unmarked copy of the student’s assessment.
  • A Turnitin report, or where a Turnitin Report is not available, a copy of the student's assessment highlighting the sections that are of concern.
  • Any other relevant information.

If submitting an allegation of academic misconduct in an exam, attach:

  • A copy of the Examination Incident Report.
  • Exam Cover Sheet.
  • Exam start and end times.
  • And any other relevant information.

What happens after you submit an allegation

After submitting an allegation, you will receive a confirmation email and be asked to apply a TA grade (admin override grade) in Grade Centre while the allegation is assessed. Please include an admin comment stating ‘SAM investigation in progress’.

If the allegation is dismissed, you will receive an email advising why it was dismissed and the next steps. If the allegation progresses to an investigation, a WD grade will be applied to the subject(s) by student administration until the case is resolved. You will be notified of the outcome of the investigation as soon as it has been finalised.

As the alleger, your details will be included in the allegation. However, you can request to remain anonymous in communications with the student. If you wish to do so, please select the appropriate option on the form.
