Rotary support continues to grow
In 2017, the Rotary Club of Wollundry Wagga Wagga marked its 25th year of providing a scholarship to assist local students undertaking science-related degrees. Along with this $7500 scholarship (payable over three years), the Club also awards two $700 prizes to assist students with the cost of textbooks. Higher education is very much valued in the Club. Rotary is very strong in that area because Rotarians believe if you can support youth, you can foster the professions.
“Over the years, recipients have come along to meetings or dropped us a line to let us know what they’ve achieved in their studies. Many say, ‘Without the scholarship, I wouldn’t have been able to do these things’,” said Club President, Paul Milde.
In March 2017 the Rotary Club of Oberon members generously donated $30,000 to the Charles Sturt Foundation to establish an annual prize for a student from the Oberon Shire Council area. Supporting young people to reach their full potential is a core focus of the Club.
