Biography

Professor Ashad Kabir is an expert in applied artificial intelligence and smartphone technologies. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, and currently serves as a Professor of Computer Science and the Deputy Leader of the Data Mining Research Group at Charles Sturt University (CSU). He is also affiliated with the Gulbali Research Institute. His academic career includes appointments at several esteemed institutions, including Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Deakin University (Australia), and Swinburne University of Technology (Australia).

Professor Kabir's research focuses on the application of advanced technologies — particularly on applying AI and smartphone sensing to tackle challenges in health and agriculture. He has led multiple industry-funded projects, forming strategic partnerships that have resulted in high-impact outcomes and international publications. Since 2020, he has secured over $7.1 million in external research grants, with 5 as lead investigator. His contributions were recognised with the Vice-Chancellor's Research Excellence Award 2023 for Research Excellence through Partnership.

He has authored over 130 scholarly articles in high-impact journals, including Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture, and IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics. His research focuses on AI-driven solutions in healthcare and agriculture, with significant international impact, as evidenced by media citations, patents, and government policy references in countries like Australia, Canada, and Spain. His work has garnered an average of 600 citations per year and received recognition such as the Editor’s Choice Article (2022) and Top Downloaded Article (2022). He has also been honored with the Vice-Chancellor’s Research Excellence Award (2022) and the Faculty Research Excellence Award (2021).

Professor Kabir has supervised over 15 PhD and Honours theses, with one HDR research project earning a commendation for the Vice-Chancellor’s Research Excellence Award 2024. He also serves on editorial boards of leading journals and has delivered keynote addresses at international conferences and top universities worldwide.
