Biography

Jake McNaughton is a Research Data Engineer at the AI and Cyber Futures Institute (AICF), having joined the team in April 2024. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Canterbury in Ōtautahi (Christchurch), followed by an Honours degree in Mathematics and a Master of Engineering in Bioengineering from the Auckland Bioengineering Institute.

Jake's expertise lies in theoretical physics and mathematics, with a strong focus on machine learning applications in healthcare. His research experience includes designing machine learning models to generate synthetic MRIs from CT scans, improving stroke diagnosis and treatment. His Honours project explored the prolongation of partial differential equations on manifolds, and he has also investigated the risks associated with AI in industry.

Outside of work, Jake enjoys music and plays the cornet in a brass band.
