Biography

Dr Brianna Maslen is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the meat and livestock industry at Charles Sturt University within the Gulbali Institute. She completed her PhD in Animal Science at Charles Sturt University within the School of Agricultural, Environmental and Veterinary Sciences in 2025. Her doctoral research investigated whether faecal microbial profiles can be used to distinguish between beef cattle with divergent phenotypes for growth performance or immune competence. This project was supported by the Angus Sire Benchmarking Program and funded by Angus Australia.

Her current postdoctoral research focuses on the Australian Lot Feeding industry and is funded by Meat & Livestock Australia. The project aims to examine the animal welfare, productivity (live animal performance and carcass quality and performance), manure and environmental aspects of different cereal straw bedding rates and space allocations, as well as zero-bedded systems, under covered housing. Brianna is passionate about research and development in livestock production and is committed to applying her research findings to enhance cattle enterprises.
