When acquiring imagery, which may be eventually projected into an orthomosaic (an image encompassing stitched drone imagery for the entire ROI), it will be important to ensure that the GPS points are referenced to the correct datum, the system which allows the location of latitudes and longitudes (and heights) to be identified onto the surface of the Earth.
This requires an understanding of the earth’s coordinate system. Please head to the following links for a comprehensive description of the importance and use of datums.
Locations of target weeds within imagery can therefore be misaligned when imagery is collected in a different datum to what is used within a GNSS receiver when model validation occurs later on-site. Misalignment of data due to the use of different datums (and what can be done about it) is defined on the NSW Spatial Services website
