Research Integrity, Ethics and Compliance

The Research Integrity Unit promotes the responsible conduct of research and teaching. The Unit provides advice on aspects of research integrity and supports the University's ethics and compliance committees.

More information on these areas is outlined below.

Research Integrity and Compliance

Charles Sturt University is committed to the responsible conduct of research. Our expectation is that research is to be conducted responsibly, ethically and with integrity.

Human research ethics

We ensure that all research involving human participants is conducted in accordance with the National Statement on the Ethical Conduct in Human Research.

Animal ethics

We ensure the welfare of animals through our Animal Ethics Committee (AEC). Before any vertebrate animal or cephalopod can be used for research or teaching purposes, the researcher must obtain approval from the AEC.

Defence Trade Controls

We support staff and students to comply with the Defence Trade Controls Act 2012. This Act regulates dealings in certain goods, services and technologies that could potentially have applications in matters of defence.

Foreign Interference

The Guidelines to Counter Foreign Interference in the Australian University Sector are designed to build on risk management policies and security practices already implemented by Australian universities, as well as assist decision-makers to assess the risks from foreign interference.

Biosafety

All staff and students who will be conducting research or practical teaching that involves genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or potentially infectious and/or hazardous agents, or who will be importing biological material  may be required to apply to Charles Sturt University's Institutional Biosafety Committee for approval.

Radiation safety

We ensure that Charles Sturt University complies with all relevant radiation legislation and that radiation safety measures are maintained across the University.
