The University also has obligations to ensure the secure environmental containment of pathogens and genetically modified organisms.
Biosafety measures are established and maintained throughout the University by the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). The committee ensures activities and facilities involving hazardous biological agents meet safety, ethical and professional standards.
The acquisition and/or use of hazardous microorganisms or genetically modified organisms must be approved by the IBC before the material is brought onto university premises or used by university staff or students.
