Who needs to apply

Staff and students may be required to apply to the Institutional Biosafety Committee for approval if they will be conducting research or practical teaching that involves:

• Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)
• Human bio-specimens
• Hazardous organisms of Risk Group 2 (RG2) and above

Dealings with, in relation to a GMO, means:

• Conducting experiments with the GMO
• Making, developing, producing or manufacturing the GMO
• Breeding the GMO
• Propagating the GMO
• Using the GMO in the course of manufacture of an entity that is not the GMO
• Growing, raising or culturing the GMO
• Importing, transporting or disposing of a GMO
