Researchers must apply for a Defence Export Controls (DEC) export permit through the National Security Compliance Committee when:

• conducting research involving technology that is regulated by the Defence and Strategic Goods List (DSGL) or
• producing research outcomes related to DSGL-regulated technology including:
  • publications
  • patents
  • equipment
  • software and
  • ongoing development of technology.

If your research activities contain DSGL technology, you can self-assess if your project requires review through the National Security Compliance Committee using the Defence Trade Controls Procedure.
