The Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) is dedicated to ensuring our university complies with all relevant radiation legislation and maintains high standards of radiation safety.

Whether you're a student or staff member, our goal is to ensure you have the information and support you need to safely and effectively conduct your work.

Compliance drivers

Working with radiation is highly regulated and involves compliance with a range of legislation and standards.

NSW Legislation

The NSW legislative framework is intended to secure the protection of persons and the environment from exposure to ionising and harmful non-ionising radiation. The legislation also obliges the university to:

  • justify its use of radiation
  • optimise radiation protection
  • set dose limits for exposure

Australian Standards for laboratories

Our laboratories must meet specific Australian Standards to ensure safety and compliance:

  • AS2243.4:1998 - Safety in Laboratories
  • AS/NZS 2982:2010 - Laboratory Design and Construction
