Radiation licences

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) issues a licence to use a radioactive substance or an irradiating apparatus.

It is illegal to use a radioactive substance or irradiating apparatus without obtaining a licence from the EPA, except for prescribed activities with strict supervision.

Applying for a licence

To apply for a radiation user licence, visit the EPA website to complete and lodge your licence application. Once you've received your licence, please scan and email a copy to the Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) at radiationsafety@csu.edu.au and the Radiation Monitoring unit at radmon@csu.edu.au.

Renewals and variations

When your radiation user licence is renewed, an updated copy must be supplied to the RSC and Radiation Monitoring unit.

You will be asked to provide a copy of your radiation user licence with research or teaching applications to the Radiation Safety Committee.
