About us

The Rural Health Research Institute (RHRI) has been established to conduct Research that addresses the rural health gap in communities across regional and remote Australia and internationally.

RHRI will provide a critical pillar of research infrastructure to Charles Sturt University that enhances the existing health and medicine programs and provides pathways for the building of research capability and capacity across Charles Sturt’s regional footprint.

RHRI’s focus on research excellence and collaboration with community will ensure that the outcomes of the research undertaken can achieve sustainable change and be translated into other regional, rural, and remote parts of Australia and beyond.

Our purpose

Is to transform health outcomes in Regional Australia and globally through delivering world class research whilst driving its translation locally, nationally, and internationally. Our research will leverage collaborations with Western Sydney University (WSU), the Joint Program in Medicine (JPM), NSW Health, Rural Health stakeholders and other international partners.

Our objectives

  • Address Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health inequity, contributing to Close the Gap aspirations.
  • Improve the experience of Ageing and Aged Care in Rural Communities.
  • Improve Child Development Health Outcomes.
  • Improve health and medical service delivery in regional cities, rural towns and remote community.
  • Boost rural, consumer-driven health and medical research capability and capacity.
  • Enhance clinical research capacity.
  • To combat neglected diseases internationally.
