Biography

Richard is involved in the following activities:

  • Drug development focusing on the mechanism of action of antimalarial drugs based on artemisinin.
  • Development of new artemisinins and related compounds, and generation of rational combinations of these with other drugs based on explicit consideration of the mechanism of action of each of the drug components for treatment of malaria.
  • Other parasitic and bacterial diseases including tuberculosis, viral diseases and cancer. For tuberculosis, emphasis is on developing drugs that maintain adequate sterilizing capacity within the diverse microenvironments inhabited by the causative pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
