Biography

Dr. Sharmin Aktar, specialized in cancer molecular pathology and genetics within the field of molecular diagnostics and pathology. She is focused on developing point-of-care testing methods and devices for early diagnosis and radiological assessment of chronic diseases, particularly cancer. She holds a PhD in molecular genetics of circulating tumor cells in colorectal cancer development from Griffith University. Previously, she worked as an Assistant Professor of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, she has worked on the adverse health effects of metal toxicity in diverse demographic groups as well as in animal model studies.

As of November 2023, she has joined the Shiddiky Research Group (https://shiddiky.com) within the Rural Health Research Institute (RHRI) at Charles Sturt University's Orange campus as a post-doctoral researcher. In this position, she will contribute to the development and validation of nucleic acid-based testing methods and devices for diverse clinical applications.
