A forum to build drought resilience capacity in agricultural industry and communities using people-first, valuesfocused design skills to motivate practice or behavioural change will be held on Wednesday 29 March at Wagga.
The Advance Southern NSW – Harnessing Connections for Rural Drought Resilience forum will be hosted by the Southern NSW Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub, supported through funding from the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund.
The forum will feature keynote speaker Professor Sharyn Rundle-Thiele, Founding Director of Social Marketing @Griffith, on how people-centred design empowers change and how to apply it more successfully.
There will be an ideas forum on engaging stakeholders; floor discussions, cases studies and a choice of breakout sessions with Prof Rundle-Thiele, Paul Ryan of the Australian Resilience Centre, Think Agri’s Kate Burke and the hub First Nations Engagement Officer Karen Kime.
Anyone actively involved in engaging, supporting and enabling farmers and communities to understand and adopt new ideas to build drought resilience, is strongly urged to attend.
Delegates will have plenty of opportunity to socialise and network at the event, so they can strengthen relationships and identify opportunities to collaborate in the region.
Hub Director Cindy Cassidy says Advance Southern NSW is about building regional capacity for positive, people focused activities that enable farmers and communities to embrace opportunities and evolve in the face of change.
"This forum is an extension of the 12 major on-ground drought resilience projects the hub is already supporting in Southern NSW,” she says.
“All of our activities have been developed for and with key stakeholders through engagement, knowledge-sharing and co-design. We are committed to valuing and embedding local farmers and communities in programs developed and delivered through the hub.
“Advance Southern NSW is about growing co-design expertise across the region, so local practitioners can use the same techniques to create practice and behavioural change in their agricultural, business and community activities.
“We invite anyone with an interest in project design, extension and engagement to join us and share this highly effective skill set.”
Advance Southern NSW is free to attend but registration is required. Agricultural advisers, leaders, facilitators, scientists and extension specialists are encouraged to reserve their seats early.
