Are you planning a teaching career? It is now a government requirement that all new teachers have high-level skills in literacy. This first in a series of two preparation subjects will give you the opportunity to develop the reading skills required by the teaching profession.

This is this second literacy preparation subject for students who want to enter the teaching profession. You'll develop your skills in the area of writing, including skills to recognise and explain punctuation, grammar and language features across a range of text types, understand the structures of writing, as well as improve spelling and vocabulary.

This subject is designed to introduce Australian academic culture and to enhance the level of Academic English skills of those students from Language Backgrounds Other Than English (LBOTE) entering the University.

Breeze through the essays you have to complete at uni with Study Link’s three essay writing subjects. The first subject, Essay Writing 1 – Style, will develop your formal writing skills through a focus on style. You’ll learn the basics of grammar, formality and developing complexity in academic writing, punctuation and APA referencing.

This second subject will develop your writing skills by focusing on the structure of essays. You’ll learn how to write introductions, paragraphs and conclusions, while also learning about the function and purpose of APA referencing.

This third subject gives you the opportunity to use the skills you’ve learned in Essay Writing 1 and Essay Writing 2. You'll learn about key aspects of essay writing, including planning and structures, conventions of academic writing, the role of referencing and where to seek additional help.

In this grammar subject, you’ll learn how to write accurately and avoid common errors in academic writing. You’ll be able to apply these lessons to understand different learning and assessment tasks at university.

If you want to be prepared for how to learn at university then this is a great way to begin. You’ll be helped to develop the skills, and strategies that are key to successful university study. Whatever you plan on studying, this will give you a head start!

Interpreting, evaluating and thinking critically are key skills required for success in university study. They will help you assess and understand theory and contemporary knowledge in your field – and so help you contribute new ideas to it.

This second subject on critical thinking adopts a philosophical framework. You’ll learn how to evaluate the truth of claims and the quality of reasons more broadly and enable you to delve more deeply into foundational and current thinking around your subject in order to develop a nuanced approach to analysis.

Communication is key to successful study. It’s how you share ideas, collaborate with others, and write about your research. From listening to and interacting with your fellow students, to writing in a way that gets your findings across with precision and style, communicating effectively is an important skill to master.
