Maths Skills 2 - Intermediate A - SSS072

Are you starting a course where you’ll need sound mathematical knowledge and skills?

This subject is for students who are entering university without a strong background in mathematics or who have limited recent practice. You’ll build on and extend basic mathematics skills you already have or acquired in Maths Skills 1 - Introductory (SSS071).

Topics covered in this short subject include:

  • arithmetic: order of operations, directed numbers, scientific notation, exact and approximate answers, significant figures, rounding, decimals, fractions, percentages, ratios, rates and the unitary method
  • basic algebra: simplifying algebraic expressions, indices and index laws, expanding brackets and binomial products, evaluating algebraic expressions, changing the subject of a formula, algebraic fractions and solving linear equations
  • calculator skills
