Registered Specialist in Veterinary Reproduction

Cyril is a specialist in Theriogenology and has been employed with Charles Sturt University since 2010. He graduated with a degree in Veterinary Science (BVSc & AH) from Kerala Agricultural University (India), and subsequently worked as a government veterinarian for 10 years. In 2006, Cyril moved to Canada and completed a doctoral residency program in Theriogenology (DVSc) at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph. Following this, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor in Theriogenology at the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island, Canada. After working there for a short period, Cyril moved to Australia to join Charles Sturt.

Cyril has successfully completed the American Specialty Board Certification Exam in 2012 and is a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists. He is an associate member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. Cyril is the Team Leader of Theriogenology Group and a Category A member of CSU Animal Care and Ethics Committee (ACEC).

Apart from his teaching and research activities, Cyril also provides specialist theriogenology services at the Veterinary Clinical Centre. His main interests include management of reproduction in equine, canine and bovine species; infertility, obstetrics, assisted reproductive techniques etc.

Current projects:
  • Assessing the impact of blood prolactin concentrations on maternal behaviour and calf health in beef cattle (MLA funded)
  • Characterisation of coumestans in lucerne and their effect on fertility in beef cattle
  • Calf48Hr - determining causes of perinatal calf loss (MLA funded)
  • Transcriptomic and proteomic determinants of ovine semen quality
  • Innovative semen preservation medium for cattle (MLA funded)
Reserach student supervision:

Cyril currently supervises 7 higher degree by research students (5 PhD, 1 DVStud and 1 MVStud). He has also supervised several Honours and Master of Animal Science students.
