International student merit scholarship

This scholarship recognises and rewards excellence for eligible students applying to study at Charles Sturt University. The award provides a 25% tuition fee reduction throughout the entire duration of the course.


Eligibility

Available to:

Open to eligible new commencing international applicants studying in internal/on-campus mode at Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst, Dubbo, Melbourne, Orange, Port Macquarie, Sydney and Wagga Wagga in the approved courses.

The scholarship is not available for continuing or transferring students.

Conditions:

Applicant must be an international applicant for an eligible course offered at Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst, Dubbo, Melbourne, Orange, Port Macquarie, Sydney and Wagga Wagga campus.

International Exchange and Study Abroad applicants are not eligible for this scholarship.

The applicant must fulfill at  least one of the following two academic criteria:

1. Australian academic progression eligibility

All new international students who apply to study a degree within 12 months after successful completion of an Australian university AQF level 7 or above degree are eligible to receive the International Student Merit Scholarship.

Criteria:

  • The applicant has completed an Australian AQF Level 7 or higher in Australia, offshore, or online.
  • The qualification completion date is within 12 months of the applied course commencement date.
  • The applicant is new to Charles Sturt University or new to the level of study with Charles Sturt University.
  • Current Charles Sturt students wishing to change/transfer to another Charles Sturt course are not eligible.
  • The applicant can be going from undergraduate to undergraduate or undergraduate to postgraduate.

2. General academic eligibility

  • If applying for an eligible Allied Health course (except Nursing), an academic entry score of 85 per cent in their equivalent Australian Year 12.
  • If applying for any other eligible undergraduate (UG) degree, an academic entry score of 75 per cent in their equivalent Australian Year 12.
  • If applying for an eligible postgraduate (PG) degree, an academic entry score of 65 per cent in their Australian equivalent undergraduate degree study.

Guidelines

Who cannot apply?

  • International students commencing an online mode course
  • International students commencing a course at Charles Sturt University’s international partners
  • International exchange students
  • International study abroad students
  • International students with an Australia Awards or Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship
  • Continuing students – only new students will be made a scholarship offer at the time of admission

Will I be notified that my application has been received?

Your offer letter will detail the scholarship.

Can I be awarded more than one scholarship?

Students awarded this scholarship will not be eligible for other Charles Sturt-funded tuition fee scholarships. For any queries, check with our friendly team at internationalclient@csu.edu.au.

How are applications assessed?

Applicants will be considered as part of their course admissions process. There is no additional application process.

Conditions of scholarship

Recipients are expected to become active members of the student body and accept to provide information, testimonials and be featured in Charles Sturt promotional materials.

When will my scholarship be paid?

Scholarships are subject to the student maintaining satisfactory academic progress and continued enrolment in their course. If these conditions are not met, scholarships may be suspended or terminated.

As long as the criteria is met, the scholarship amount will be deducted from tuition fees at the commencement of each session.

Can I defer my scholarship offer?

Yes, you may defer to a future intake and still be awarded the scholarship.

Can my scholarship be suspended or terminated?

Yes, if you fail to meet the criteria for your scholarship.

Termination of a scholarship will occur if the recipient is excluded from their course, if the recipient withdraws or cancels their enrolment or if the recipient fails to maintain satisfactory grades over a prolonged period. Scholarships will also be terminated if the recipient transfers to another university.

Can I apply for an Approved Leave of Absence (ALA)?

An Approved Leave of Absence will not cause the scholarship’s termination. Please check with your international student support officer for more information.

When will I be notified of my application's outcome?

Your scholarship application outcome will be advised with your offer letter.

What will happen after I am granted the scholarship?

You will need to accept your offer of study at the university. You may still be required to meet the Genuine Student criteria, including financial capacity, and will need to make the appropriate fee deposit to the university to receive a e-COE.

How many scholarships are on offer?

The university will award as many scholarships as possible, with an intent to reward every eligible student.

Will I be considered as a commencing student if I am transferring from another Charles Sturt course or I am applying with advanced standing?

Yes, you will be a commencing student and will still require to meet the other listed criteria. Please contact us at internationalclient@csu.edu.au for confirmation.

What are my responsibilities if awarded a scholarship?

You may be required to participate in a number of activities/tasks to promote Charles Sturt University to the wider community:

Provide photographs of your experience to international marketing team for use in promotional and marketing items.

Submit an article about your experience to internal and external media groups.

Speak to internal and external media for interview purposes.

Post photos and/or updates through various Charles Sturt International social media pages.

You will also be required to sign a media release allowing your photos and images of you to be used for promotional and marketing purposes.

Can I transfer my scholarship to another campus if I remain in the same Charles Sturt course?

Yes, you may transfer your scholarship to another campus, as long as you remain in the same course and meet the other criteria for your scholarship.
