Opening for commencing 2025 students TBC. This scholarship is for outstanding students who demonstrate Charles Sturt values and community contributions. It is valued at 50% tuition fee reduction throughout the entire duration of the course. You will require an invitation to apply for this scholarship. This scholarship is currently unavailable for the Bachelor of Dental Science and Bachelor of Veterinary Science. See Eligibility.


Eligibility

AVAILABLE TO:

Awarded to eligible new commencing 2024 international applicants studying in internal/on-campus mode at Dubbo, Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst, Orange, Port Macquarie, or Wagga Wagga in the approved courses.

The scholarship is not available for continuing or transferring students. Applicants must be international applicants for an intake in 2024 on a regional campus. Applicants will need to achieve an academic entry score of 80 per cent of higher.

CONDITIONS:

Applicant must be an international applicant for an eligible course offered at Dubbo, Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst, Orange, Port Macquarie or Wagga Wagga campus for an intake in 2024.

International Exchange and Study Abroad applicants are not eligible for this scholarship.

Provide evidence of:

  • Community involvement and desire to be involved in the Charles Sturt community (500-word essay minimum).
  • Applicant must hold an unconditional offer* for a Charles Sturt University course.

* Unconditional offer means that the applicant has met all of the conditions of their conditional offer including meeting the English Language Proficiency requirements, providing certified documentation, and passing the Genuine Temporary Entrant checks, etc. Please Note: For many countries applicants will be required to apply for admission via an approved Charles Sturt University Education Agent. Guidelines

Who cannot apply?

  • International students commencing an online mode course
  • International students commencing a course at Charles Sturt University’s international partners
  • International exchange students
  • International students with an Australia Awards or Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship
  • Continuing students

What should I include in my essay?

Here are some tips for students on what to write:

Personal statement (200 words minimum) - Who you are, your background, why you want to study in Australia at Charles Sturt in a regional area. Why have you selected your preferred course, what are your achievements etc. How do you think you will exemplify the Charles Sturt values?

Community involvement (300 words minimum) - What community involvement or contribution have you demonstrated so far? (provide evidence) How would you like to get involved in the local community at Charles Sturt ie. there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer at annual events, volunteer at aged care homes, or work with the chamber of commerce or council in some sort of capacity (examples only – use your own experience, goals and research).

Will I be notified that my application has been received?

Yes. You will be notified by email when your application has been successfully submitted.

Can I be awarded more than one scholarship?

How are applications assessed?

Successful applicants are selected after a series of shortlisting processes, including a review by Charles Sturt Global Engagement staff.

From the final shortlist of strong applicants, a panel of senior Charles Sturt staff will select the awardees.

There will be no appeals process.

Conditions of scholarship

Scholarship is conditional on the student maintaining satisfactory progression in the course (pass average). Students who transfer out of their regional location at any time will not continue to be awarded the scholarship.

Recipients are expected to become active members of the student body and accept to provide information, testimonials and be featured in Charles Sturt promotional materials. You will be required to participate in a number of activities/tasks to promote Charles Sturt University to the wider community:

Provide photographs of your experience to international marketing team for use in promotional and marketing items.

Submit an article about your experience to internal and external media groups.

Speak to internal and external media for interview purposes.

Post photos and/or updates through various Charles Sturt International social media pages.

You will also be required to sign a media release allowing your photos and images of you to be used for promotional and marketing purposes.

When will my scholarship be paid?

This scholarship is subject to the student maintaining satisfactory academic progress and continued enrolment in their course. If these conditions are not met, scholarships may be suspended or terminated.

As long as the criteria is met, the scholarship amount will be deducted from tuition fees at the commencement of each session.

Can I defer my scholarship offer?

You may be able to defer the scholarship, please check with the international admissions if you defer your offer.

Can my scholarship be suspended or terminated?

Yes, if you fail to meet the criteria for your scholarship.

Termination of a scholarship will occur if the recipient is excluded from their course, if the recipient withdraws or cancels their enrolment, if the recipient fails to maintain satisfactory grades over a prolonged period or has issues of serious misconduct Scholarships will also be terminated if the recipient transfers to another university or place of study.

Termination of the scholarship can occur if awardee doesn’t support the marketing activities described in the responsibilities section.

Can I apply for an Approved Leave of Absence (ALA)?

An approved Leave of Absence will not cause the end of the scholarship, ensure you notify your international student support officer that you are a scholarship awardee.

FAQ

When will I be notified of my application's outcome?

Applications close 15 November 2023 and you should be notified by 15th December.

What will happen after I am granted the scholarship?

You will need to accept your offer of study at the university. You may still be required to meet GTE (Genuine Temporary Entrant) criteria, including financial capacity, and will need to make the appropriate fee deposit to the university to receive a e-COE.

How many scholarships are on offer?

Three scholarships are available for Session 1 2024.

Will I be considered as a commencing student if I am transferring from another Charles Sturt course or I am applying with advanced standing?

You will be eligible to apply for this scholarship if you commence into an approved course.

Tips on applying for a scholarship?

Pay close attention to scholarship application closing deadlines. Applications submitted past the deadline will not be considered. Ensure you have received an unconditional offer.
